Verla's management board

The Verla World Heritage Site Management Board was established in 2002. Previously, the site was managed by the Verla administration board, which was formed in 1972 to establish the factory museum and consisted of representatives from the owning company. The Verla World Heritage Site Management Board includes representatives from the regional owning companies UPM Kymmene Oyj and KSS Energia Oy, as well as the National Board of Antiquities.

The management board ensures that the site's values are preserved for future generations. It guides the planning and development of the site's maintenance and operation as a tourist destination in accordance with the guidelines required by UNESCO for World Heritage Sites. The board maintains contact with authorities and decision-makers who influence the operating conditions of museums and national tourist destinations. The board reviews projects and plans for the World Heritage Site and receives reports on its maintenance and operations. Although the owners are responsible for decisions related to the site, the board and its opinions carry significant weight in decision-making.

UPM is represented on the board by Stakeholder Relations Director Sami Oksa, who serves as the board's chairman, and Stakeholder Relations VP Hanna Maula. KSS Energia Oy is represented by Production Manager Kari Dansk. The National Board of Antiquities is represented by cultural environment service intendants Mikko Mannberg and Timo Kantonen. Additionally, the staff of the UPM Verla Factory Museum participates in the board's work: Director Ville Majuri and curator Jaana Rannanpää.
