This cabin (Mäyrä or "The Badger") lies in the forest about half a kilometer from the Mill Museum, on a quiet peninsula. It is suitable for 2-3 adults.

The Hirsniemi cabins named after animals bring their guests into the true forest life on a shore of a sandy lake. In this beautiful landscape you can have a break with your family or with a bigger party divided into separate cabins.

The reservations and maintenance of the Verla cottages and cabins is managed by Repovalkea Oy. The cottages and cabins are owned and operated by UPM-Kymmene Oyj. The destinations are part of the World Heritage Site.

The cabin type, yard and the beach

It is a recently renovated, 25-quare-meter cabin for 3-4 people with an open main room and a kitchenette. The yard is mainly pine forest.

The Mäyrä cabin has no private beach, but a path leads to the common campfire place on a shallow sandy beach.

Location

The four cabins of Hirsniemi are located about half a kilometer from the Mill Museum on a quiet peninsula. The cabins are accessible by car.

Each cabin is individually marked on the peninsula itself, but finding the right intersection in the museum area requires attention.

You can find the location of Hirsniemi on Google maps and a picture of the intersection on Google Street View.

The cottage is at your disposal from 15 o’clock on the arrival date to 11 o’clock on the day of departure. You may go to the cottage only during the reservation period.

The sauna and sauna shifts

The Hirsniemi cottages share a lakeside sauna.  One sauna bathing turn per day is included in the reservation. You may book your turn online in advance. You will receive further details about booking the sauna on the reservation confirmation email.

Tip: The Arkko cottage has its own wood-heated lakeside sauna.

Keys

Further details on how to pick up the keys are provided in the booking confirmation. The keys are in a key box at the cottage.  A valid PIN code to the key box will be sent to the customer via text message to the number provided by the customer during the reservation process up to two hours before the start of the rental period.
The customer is responsible for the key throughout the time of reservation. The key must be returned at the end of the reservation to the same key box from where it was taken. Compensation for a non-returned key is charged as per the terms.

Cleanliness, final cleaning and garbage

The customer is responsible for the cleanliness of the rental property, its yard and related services. The cottage must be carefully cleaned after use so that it’s nice and ready for the next guest to arrive to Verla. Biodegradable waste can go into the dry toilet and mixed waste can be disposed of in a sealed plastic bag in the waste container by the road leading to the Hirsniemi peninsula.

The final cleaning can also be purchased as a service at the time of booking. If the property is left un-cleaned, full cleaning costs will be charged from the customer (see terms).

Pets

House-trained dogs are allowed in the cottage. The owner must make sure the beds are properly protected if the dog likes to sleep on the bed. During the final cleaning special attention must be paid to the cleaning of the bedding and the rugs to get the dog hairs out as thoroughly as possible.

Dogs must always be kept on a leash when outdoors. If dogs relieve themselves in the yard, the waste must be picked up and transported further into the forest and out of sight and people’s feet.

Please specify the dog breed and size when making the booking. Remember also to check the terms for pets before booking.

If you would like more peace and quiet for your dog, the Saukko cottage is the furthest in the forest.

Terms

The customer making the reservation is fully responsible for the entire cottage and also for their friends. Please check out the terms before booking: Terms.

The Hirsniemi cabins

The four Hirsniemi cabins are located about half a kilometre from the Mill Museum, on a peaceful peninsula. The cabins, which are built from round logs, have been freshly remodelled. The cabins measure 25 square metres and can sleep 3–4 people. The cabins are named after the animals of the Hirsniemi peninsula – Otter, Squirrel, Badger and Hare – and guests will enjoy a sandy lake beach in the midst of true forest life.

The Tree People

Join the tribe of Tree People and spend a night or two in a tree with a beautiful lake landscape in the middle on World Heritage Site Verla. Tervarumpu Ecocamp Verla is incomparable experience for people seeking genuine outdoor life. Forest has been the most important element of nature since the beginning of time. Forest has provided safety, shelter and food. Forest has been a source of livelyhood for many.  Present research confirms the same that the Finns have known all along: forest is a vital part of the wellbeing on humans.
